Day 1

Reykjavik

Arrive at Reykjavik international airport, transfer to hotel for check in. Dinner and overnight stay in Reykjavik.

Day 2

Golden Circle

Meet your English speaking Driver guide at the Hotel reception and start your guided tour. The tour starts with a stop at Perlan observation deck, to give you the best view over Reykjavik. Then continue to the Golden Circle, often called Iceland in a nutshell. Visit the most essential sights of natural beauty and importance of Icelandic history. Then continue to the South of Iceland and travel though the ever changing landscape and discover the most iconic waterfalls. Plan of the day: Departure time: 09:00 Thingvellir National Park—walk among the geological wonders of the fissure zone and in the footsteps of the early Viking settlers where the Althingi parliament was founded. Hike through Almannagjá Canyon all the way to Öxarárfoss waterfall Gullfoss—feel the mist of glacial water as it cascades down one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls Geysir—hear the bubbling of the mud pots, smell the sulfur in the air and watch in awe as the geyser Strokkur blasts boiling water into the air Skalholt—discover the historical site that shaped the spiritual, political and cultural landscape of Iceland. Continue to the South of Iceland Seljalandfoss waterfall – a picturesque waterfall where you can walk behind Gljúfrabúi waterfall, the “gorge dweller” – walk from Seljalandfoss waterfall along the rock cliff to this little gem and dare walking into the gorge for a closer look: waterproofs highly recommended! Skógafoss waterfall – get close to the cascade and walk the uncountable steps to the brim of the waterfall for an unforgettable view Dyrholaey rock arch – take the drive to the lighthouse at Cape Dyrholaey and see the waves beating against the cliffs and natural rock arch. Reynisfjara black sand beach – walk along the black sand beach to the basalt columns, washed out by the Atlantic ocean. Arrive at 18:00 at your Hotel in Hvolsvöllur/Vík area. Dinner at Hotel.

Day 3

Skaftafell National Park, Vatnajökull Glacier & Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Travel through the spellbinding landscape of Myrdalsandur and Skeiðará sand deserts, the mosscovered lava fields. With Iceland’s largest glacier Vatnajökull in view, visit Skaftafell National Park and famous Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.

Plan of the day: Depart at 09:00 Mýrdalsandur – stop within this sand desert, an outwash plain of the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier and absorb the bare beauty of the area. Eldhraun lava field – On of the largest volcanic eruptions in Iceland created this lava field in the year 1783. Today, moss covers the lava rocksand with its different shades of green is captivating, and makes one forget the destructive forces of a volcano. Fjaðarargjlúfur gorge – walk along the canyon with its sheer walls. Skeiðarásandur – drive again through a sand desert, the largest in Iceland and gaze upon the largest glacier, Vatnajökull. Skaftafell National Park – visit the information centre of Iceland´s largest National Park. Svínafellsjökull outlet glacier – the dramatic landscape around this outlet glacier with its deep crevasses has been used as a setting for many films. Jökulsárlón Glacier lagoon - Packed with icebergs in various shades of white and blue, the extraordinary scenery at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is sure to take your breath away. Diamond beach – often smaller icebergs are washed back ashore at the black sand beach, glittering like diamonds in the sun. Arrive at 18:00 at Hotel in Skaftafell/Glacier lagoon area. Dinner at Hotel.

Day 4

East Fjords & Fishing villages

Head on along the East fjords with the steep mountain slopes and narrow coastal sections. Plan of the day: Depart at 09:00 Höfn village – visit the fishing village known for the Icelandic lobster. Enjoy the view to the glacier Vatnajökull and walk along the shores and spot the birds nesting. Perhaps add on a visit to the Glacier museum. East Fjords – drive along the fjords with its dramatic fjord landscape. Djúpavógur fishing village – take a walk along the small harbour and visit the Eggs of Merry Bay, stone sculptures of the various bird eggs of the breeding birds of the Eastern Fjords. Lagerfljót lake and forest – Iceland largest forest is located around a lake and at Egilsstaðir village. Arrive at 18:00 at your Hotel in Eastfjords/Egilsstaðir area. Dinner at hotel.

Day 5

Dettifoss waterfall, Highland dessert and Mývatn area

Drive today across the mountain plateau of Jökuldalsheiði and get an insight in part of the highland desert of Iceland. Take a walk to the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Dettifoss, and visit the hot mud springs of Hverarönd and the crater Vití. The lush green vegetation around lake Mývatn is quite a contrast to the highlands. Birdwatching, walking through the lava formation Dimmuborgir and a relaxing bath in the geothermal water of Myvatn Nature bath should not be missed

Plan of the day:

Depart at 09:00 Jökuldalsheiði Highland plateau – drive through the sparsely vegetated highland desert Möðrudalskirkja and Café – make a stop at the small Café in the middle of the highlands and enjoy a view to Mount Herðubreið in clear weather. Dettifoss waterfall – walk to the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Hverarönd mud hot springs – smell the sulphur and see the bubbling grey mud hot springs Vití Crater – gaze into the crater, which was active during a series of eruptions in 1975 – 1984 Leirhnjúkur lava field – take an easy walk to the lava field that was created in the eruptions between 195 – 1984, named the Krafla fires. Krafla power station – drive by the geothermal power station Krafla, named after the volcano. Myvatn lake – have stops along the lake for birdwatching. Among others you can spot the Slavonian Grebe, Red throated diver, Great Northern Diver and many more. Dimmuborgir lava formation – walk through the magnificent lava landscape with stranfe formations, columns, caves and arches. Skútustaðagígur pseudo craters – walk along the pseudo craters, shaped by steam explosion in the volcanic active past of the area. It offers great views over the lake and the distant mountains too! Arrive at 18:00 at your Hotel in Húsavík area. Dinner at Hotel

Day 6

Goðafoss waterfall, Akureyri & Skagafjörður

Continue your tour towards Akureyri and take a walk to the picturesque waterfall Goðafoss en route. Drive through green valleys and over high mountains to the main horse breeding area of Iceland: Skagafjörður. Plan of the day: Depart at 09:00 Goðafoss waterfall – at a height of 12 metres and over the width of 30 metres falls the river Skjálfandi and creates this magnificent waterfall. Akureyri – visit the charming city centre with its colourful houses and the botanical garden. Skagafjörður fjord – the main horse breeding area of Iceland 18:00 arrive at Hotel in Skagafjörður area. Dinner at Hotel

Day 7

Snæfellsnes peninsula

Duration 9 hours, with English speaking guide Journey across striking landscapes on Snæfellsnes peninsula and experience stunning natural beauty and breathtaking imagery. Marvel at the magnificence of Snæfellsjökull volcano, walk along the coastline of Arnarstapi with its blowholes and walk along the black pebble beach Djúpalónsandur. The iconic church shaped mountain Kirkjufell is best viewed from the little waterfall close by. Discover the rich heritage and fascinating history of this mesmerizing area.

Highlights: Kirkjufell mountain – the iconic mountain was shaped by the ice age glaciers. Best pictures are taken from the little waterfall nearby! Gerðuberg basalt columns – this impressive rock face was once a sea cliff, when ocean levels where higher at about 8000 years ago! Saxhólar crater – walk up on the crater and enjoy the view over the area. The volcanic past of the peninsula is present in every direction you look. Djúpalónsandur black pebble beach – once this was the main fishing area of the whole area, for there was drinking water available. Parts of the British trawler Epine that stranded in March 1948 just of the coast are today part of the beach with its smooth black pebbles. Lóndarangar - this rock pinnacles standing at the coast line are the inner core of a volcano, the rest has been eroded by the endless clashing of the waves of the North Atlantic ocean. Ytri Tunga beach – spot seals resting at the rocks close to shore Arnarstapi – walk along the shoreline of the small fishing hamlet, with blowholes, sheer cliffs, and the statue of Barður Snæfellsás, the protecting spirit of the peninsula. Arrive at 18:00 at your Hotel in Snæffellsnes area. Dinner at Hote

DAY 8

Hraunfossar waterfall, Deildartunguhver hot spring and City sightseeing Reykjavik

Head on over the mountain heath and visit the most powerful hot spring in Iceland, Deildartunguhver and the Hraunfossar waterfalls, before continuing to Reykjavik. With your Guide, visit the main sights of Reykjavik. The tour covers the city’s top attractions, interesting facts, and stories that relate to history and culture in Reykjavik and throughout Iceland. Travelling the Reykjavik area and surrounding municipalities provides an excellent overview. Depart at 09:00 Grábrok crater – walk up the stairs to the crater edge and admire the view over the volcanic area Deildartunguhver hot spring – with 180 l/s the most active hot spring in Iceland Hraunfossar waterfalls – clear fresh water emerging from underneath a lava field, forming a series of waterfalls. Barnafoss waterfall – them main glacial river in which the Hraunfossar flow, makes its way through a narrow gorge, forming the waterfall Barnafoss. Reykjavik City sightseeeing Places that will be visited: Hallgrimskirkja church Old harbour Office of the prime minister (outside viewing only) Parliament building (outside viewing only) Reykjavik city hall University area Perlan observation deck – the best view over the capital area

Bessastaðir presidential residence (outside viewing only) Hafnarfjörður, the town of the hidden people Höfði house - location for the 1986 summit meeting of former US president Ronald Reagan and former Secreatary General of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev, a historical event that effectively marked the end of the Cold War (outside viewing only) 18:00 arrive at Hotel in Reykjavik.

After breakfast checkout from hotel and transfer from Hotel in Reykjavik to KEF international airport.
